At the Monaco Yacht Show, supporting our friends and colleagues in the Caribbean during their time of need was a focal point of discussion throughout the four days of the event. Like many of you in the industry, AYSS sought an opportunity to support the recovery and rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Irma, and we are proud to announce that we will be supporting the SuperYacht Aid Coalition. Our yacht agents located in all corners of the globe will make themselves available to assist with marine services, advice, and expertise, working with local maritime authorities on behalf of vessels which will be transporting donations to affected areas.

SuperYacht Aid Coalition (SAC) came together in September 2017 to create a network of industry leaders to coordinate disaster relief aid to affected coastal communities. SAC has nominated YachtAid Global (YAG) to coordinate the delivery of aid, and both groups are putting out an appeal to the industry to get involved. In addition to providing logistical support through our global network of yacht agents, we will be supporting the dissemination of news and updates to the yachting community through our online channels as well.

By their very existence the Caribbean nations have given incredible experiences to so many of us in our industry. It is only proper that in their moment of great need we should all come together to offer support and assistance. Every small piece helps make the greater good. – Adam Tarleton, Brazil Yacht Services & Chairman of AYSS

YAG is not a stranger to us at AYSS, as its founder, Mark Drewelow is CEO of AYSS member C2C, an AYSS member since 2003 based in San Diego and providing marine agency services along the entire coast of California and also served for a time as Chairman of AYSS as well. Mark is known for his vast experience in solving superyacht operational issues enabling him to effectively coordinate crew, yachts, and supplies on a global scale. Founded in 2006, YachtAid Global is comprised of a generous group of individuals including superyacht owners, captains, crew, and industry professionals who voluntarily help communities in need of assistance all over the world. By his side is Tim Forderer, YAG General Manager and the organization’s worldwide ambassador, who brings leadership and inspiration to the YAG team as a captain, and full-time volunteer. Tim’s humanitarian work has been focused on delivering a wide variety of supplies and donations to areas in need over the past 12 years.

With regards to the Caribbean crisis and the need for support Tim told us, “If you are in a leadership position in your company and can make one decision today that could make a difference, I would like to ask you to consider supporting SAC. Of course, we have a need for monetary and product donations but we also have a great necessity, particularly in the Caribbean at the moment, for the time and expertise of professionals in the industry from a variety of fields. If you would like to help make a difference, we would very much appreciate hearing from you.”

In particular, Tim told us they are in urgent need of the following relief supplies and services:

• Cash donations make such a difference, you can donate via www.yachtaidglobal.org
• Water filters by Sawyer
• Inflatable Solar Lanterns of any kind
• Transportation of aid from USA or Europe to the Caribbean
• Transportation of aid between islands in the Caribbean
• Creating a campaign on our website, click here for details

“The contributions and assistance coming from the yachting industry in response to Hurricanes Irma and Maria are unprecedented,” said Mark Drewelow, but they are also in need of the industry’s continued assistance he told us.
