With spring finally here and a busy Mediterranean cruising season just around the corner, all eyes turn towards Monaco as spring kicks off with the typical busy schedule of events at this time of year. Starting with the Cannes Film Festival and continuing with the Monaco GP, Monaco and the South of France attract the crème de la crème of fast cars, beautiful celebrities, and of course most of the famous superyachts in the world.
We caught up this month with Tomaso Moreno and Laurent Certaldi to talk about this special region. They are the masterminds behind Catalano Shipping, also known as AGents by Catalano, members of AYSS since 2003.
Today, with eight yacht agency offices covering not only Monaco but also the French Mediterranean coast, Corsica and additional offices in Croatia, Greece and Singapore, their list of services and coverage to support the ever-complex needs of superyacht owners is expansive. They also boast a spare parts & chandlery division, not one but two car rental offices, a provisioning company that will deliver from Greece to Portugal (and every point in between), and an express transport company that delivers worldwide. Perhaps most impressive are their initiatives to protect the delicate marine environment that is at the heart of all of our work, offering ecological mooring buoys and specialized garbage recovery when using the buoys or at anchor.
Tomaso appreciates the daily challenges they face and in fact thrives on it. “At the end of the day, we trust our captains, pursers, chief stews and owners to test us every day. They expect the best, and we don’t get easily flustered. After all these years in business, no job is too difficult to handle.”
After 20 years of operation, they have many a story to tell! While secrecy and discretion are at the top of their list, we were able to get a few great stories of incredible services they have executed for their captains and owners.
When you can’t live without your toy
One owner, who was halfway around the world thought to himself, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have my tender over here right now?” No worries, the team who quickly got together an Antonov aircraft to “mail” the tender to the other side of the globe.
When colour matters
A quick turn around for a charter can be a stressful time. So, when a purser called the office to say that their charter guest would prefer to have white carpeting throughout the yacht, Tomaso and his team got right to work. This was no small feat considering the fact that the yacht was over 100m, and they had one day to complete the job.
When privacy is a must
Going for a quiet, solo run at any time of the day in Monaco is a challenge. So for one fitness-focused owner, Tomaso and his team rang up the director of Monaco’s Stadium and bang… a private, modern racetrack was at their disposal resulting in one happy, fit owner.
When you need art to feed your soul
Fancy a private tour of the E-1027? No problem! The modernist villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, built in 1926 by the Irish architect and furniture designer Eileen Gray, is a must-see for art aficionados. One call from the chief stew and voilà… the villa was opened for an exclusive private tour for one very special yacht owner who had a passion for architecture and interior design.
When the authorities call you
Immigration and visa services can often be a minefield of challenging bureaucracy, but the team has always managed to pull off miracles. It’s when the authorities call you for assistance, you know that you’re doing a great job.
When time is of the essence
AGents by Catalano’s mooring buoys in St Tropez will be moving closer to the port entrance this year, offering a shorter commute via tender to the shore. Yacht captains ask, and the team delivers.
The team’s dedication and involvement in national and international associations, work groups, forums, and seminars to educate their staff and push the industry in a direction that benefits the growth of the yachting industry is why AGents by Catalano are a strong point of reference for the industry in Monaco and beyond.
