Kirton & Co. Ltd
Malta’s strategic position at the heart of the Mediterranean, lying 93km to the south of Sicily and 290km to the north of Africa, makes Malta a natural choice for a port of call on the Mediterranean itinerary.
Malta is a sunny haven for yachts in the Mediterranean, with easy access by sea or air from major European and North African destinations. With its rich history, beautiful architecture and English speaking population, Malta is the cradle of the Western World’s civilisation. The Grand Harbour provides a perfect and stunning berth as well as modern services and facilities.
Kirton & Co. Ltd was founded in 1884 by Cooper Kirton, Master Mariner P&O Line, at a time when the company’s involvement in shipping was in coal bunkering. Since then Kirton & Co. Ltd has developed into the leading ship and superyacht agent in Malta.
Kirton & Co represents many shipping companies worldwide and captains find our services to be consistently of the highest standard. We are also proud to have represented the Royal Navy for the last 50 years and the US Navy independently and recently also as representatives of MLS.
We pride ourselves in achieving the highest quality standards and we were the first shipping agents in Malta to be awarded the ISO 9002 certification for our agency quality management system by Bureau Veritas Quality International in 1996.
With our ‘in house’ knowledge of local services available, we are able to provide full information of the facilities provided and advise on any client requirements. We are especially geared to give a service on a 24 hour basis to vessels calling for bunkers, delivery of spare parts and crew changes.
Set in the glorious bastioned splendour of the Grand Harbour built by the Knights of Malta, the harbour provides the ideal location for berthing a superyacht. The harbour provides old world charm and a fascinating history with modern port services.
Bunkering facilities are available both inside harbour and offshore at very competitive rates.
Local ship repair yards are available for any type of repairs and/or painting (afloat or drydocking).
Spare parts received in transit from any destination can be cleared through customs and delivered to the ship/yacht soon after their arrival at the airport.
Guest and crew arrivals/departures
Guests and crew are met or escorted to/from the airport by a company representative. Visa arrangements can also be arranged prior to arrival/departure provided we are advised of nationality and passport details in advance. Local advice and private tours can be arranged and suited to meet individual client’s requirements.
Registration of yachts
Yachts can be registered under the Malta Flag. The registration and operation of vessels under the Malta Flag is regulated by the Merchant Shipping Act 1973, based mainly on the Merchant Shipping Legislation of the United Kingdom.
This new millennium sees the development of a new marina set beneath bastions and offering a wide choice of good quality services
