Well what a year its been here at AYSS and our member yacht agents. Firstly, we’d like to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Wherever you are in the world, its traditional to treat this time of year as a period of contemplation – how has 2018 been for you, and what will 2019 have in store?
In reflection, 2018 has been bursting with action for AYSS. Where do we start? Well, as always, we celebrate the successes and developments within our hugely talented membership base. Throughout our rigorous membership application process, we establish the quality and reputation of each applicant. We have been blown away by their services to superyachts this year and are delighted to welcome onboard several new yacht agents and associate members.
The AYSS brand is continuing to build momentum and reputation globally – yacht captains can have the confidence in using our paper or electronic version of the AYSS Handbook as their primary reference for superyacht agency. It gets renewed each year, ready for release around April. Request a copy and plan your next stopover now! All our agents are listed and detailed on our website – www.ayss.org.
Not only do we take enormous pride in our members for their core services to the superyacht industry, but for everything else too. It’s been a particularly difficult time for those living within the Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean. Our heart goes out to those in Indonesia and other affected regions of the recent seismic and volcanic activity. Aid efforts from some of our members in the region have been admirable to say the least. Andy Shorten, vice-chairman of AYSS owns The Lighthouse Consultancy and has been working tirelessly to aid those affected by recent tragedies in Bali.
Additionally, in the background, we have agents all over the world, contributing to humanitarian and environmental relief campaigns. Many of them witness first-hand, the devastation of natural and man-made disasters. AYSS were delighted to announce back in September, the partnership with YachtAid Global. We have pledged 1% of our annual income to support YachtAid Global’s relief efforts. We look forward to continuing our support into 2019.
What else has been keeping us occupied? Well, Yacht Shows for a start! With representatives at most international shows, you’re never far out of reach from us. Partnering with ACREW again this year, we were delighted to host our AGM and annual MonacoNET drinks at La Rascasse during Monaco Yacht Show. It really is a wonderful week full of networking opportunities. AYSS also sponsored the Fraser Yachts Captains Dinner during Monaco Yacht Show this year – a glamourous evening of superyacht celebrations!
Similarly, FLIBS and more recently Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting were well supported by AYSS too. We hosted an informative hour recently at ACYM, with standing-room only! The talented Carlos Miquel of South American Yacht Support Services (SASYSS) presented on cruising the Caribbean, South America and Antarctica in style! It’s very much on our bucket list for 2019 now!
Our chairman, Adam Tarleton of Brazil Yacht Services has once again helmed AYSS forwards in 2018. His leadership is instrumental and experience in the superyacht industry provides AYSS with great strength and integrity as we move ahead to 2019. Adam, on behalf of all our members – thank you.
So wherever you’re spending this festive season, we hope you’ve over-catered on the Champagne, put your feet up and enjoyed yourselves!
Very best wishes for 2019, from all of us at AYSS.
We love to hear from members, yacht captains or other interested parties. Whether you’d like to join us, write a guest blog or simply make yourselves known to us – please do get in touch, we’d be delighted!
